Getting Ready for Yurrebilla? How to Avoid the Big Mistake 90% of Runners Get Wrong

You’ve trained, you’ve got your nutrition and hydration sorted, you’ve bought more pairs of shoes than you probably needed to try, and you’ve got your gear sorted. You. Are. Ready.

But… there’s one mistake about 90% of runners, especially trail runners, make on race day - they run in their training gear instead of training in their running gear.

What’s the difference? There’s actually a massive difference.

Let’s assume your race is something a little longer… maybe 10 or 20km, or even further. Maybe you’re a SARCC runner lining up for Yurrebilla 13km, 28km or the full 56km – a race where you’ll be out on the trails for a while. If you’re tackling the 28km, chances are you’ll be out there for a few hours at least, and possibly even four… or on the full 56km course, much, much longer than that. And while the 13km might be over a little quicker, you’ll still want gear that keeps you comfortable no matter what conditions mother nature dishes up – cool start, hot finish, rain, shine, or all of the above.

You can be out there for a while, and possibly longer than you ever train.

So your training tops - your tanks, tees, long sleeves etc - may be perfect for training in when you’re out there for shorter training runs, and fine when you get to pick and choose what kind of weather conditions you train in.

But come race day, when mother nature can dish up a bit of anything and everything, and you’ll be running come hell or literal high water, you’re gonna need a top that’s fit for purpose. And that purpose is to have one less thing to worry about. And not die.

On race day you can worry about whether you’re eating or drinking enough.

Worry about that next big climb.

Worry about whether or not you can catch that runner in front of you.

But you don’t have to worry about your clothing.

Wear something that will be perfect for a cool start, a cold or wet day, a mild day, a looong day, an even longer night, knowing you’ve got that box ticked.

Comfortable top? Tick.

Suitable for any weather? Tick.

Designed and made by ultra runners who get the lunacy of what we do and built this top for people just like you? Tick.

Then train in the top that’s designed for your race instead of running in the top that’s good for training and come race day, may or may not be the best thing for the job, in the weather conditions that you have no say in.

Trust us, it’ll be one less thing to worry about on the day.

So long before race day, go with something comfortable.

Go with something that meets thermal mandatory gear requirements.

Go with something that will serve you well on the day, that you've already trained in.

Go with something that will help you be ready for anything.

Go with io.
