June saw the sixth running of the Tower Trail Run, in Mt Gambier on South Australia’s Limestone Coast. Once again we were proud to sponsor this event and it was a great field of runners out on what was a revised course due to a bushfire that ripped through 50 hectares of land in the Crater Lakes district back in January.

A very chilly start line for the 21km runners | Sputnik in his Ultra Zip and Altitude Neck Warmer. |
After being in cancelled in 2021 due to Covid, the event almost didn’t happen again this year due to the bushfire damage, but thanks to some last minute course change approvals, it was all systems go with ioMerino back on board as a sponsor, David Michell our founder in attendance manning our pop up shop (that almost got blown away when the wind picked up!), and official Outsiders Tracy (56kms), Sputnik (21kms) and Minnie (10.5kms) all tackling different distances on the day.

While the course was unable to go all the way to the tower the event is named after, most runners agreed the course was still epic, running into, around and through the volcanic craters! (Although a new section up a steep, technical, mountain bike track may not have been the most loved part of the course! In fact, “It was sh*t” according to Minnie who was grateful to only run that part of the course once as part of the 10.5km race. We still have no idea how Tracy managed to get up there four times during her ultra!)
It was a bitterly cold morning, with the temperature not even reaching double figures by lunch time - perfect weather to go with io! And it was great to see so much io out on course.

While Merino is an amazing natural fibre, not all Merino fabrics are created equal. At ioMerino, we make our own fabrics, using only the best quality fibres, and to very specific specifications that make the most of the natural benefits of Merino. All of them are 'Merino rich’. No cheap blends passed off as Merino. No cheaper scratchy fibres or synthetic substitutes to save money. No unethical production. And each fabric is made for a specific purpose. So if you see something with a small amount of elastase or nylon added, you can be sure it absolutely needs to be there to enhance the natural stretch and durability.
It took every bit of our 140 years of experience in the wool industry to perfect our fabrics, but we think you’ll agree the end result was more than worth the effort.
Ethically Made. Ethically Sourced. Perfectly Natural.
