Our Altitude range was originally designed as a baselayer, to fit close to your body for maximum performance, so it’s snug but soft, with plenty of give for extra comfort. If you’re usually a medium, for example, you might find the medium fits tighter than you’d expect because it’s designed to be ‘contact fit’ and look and feel like a second skin. If you’re looking for a more relaxed fit you might consider sizing up (it will still be relatively snug) or choosing another style.

The Men's Altitude Crew Neck Base Layer is the ‘go to’ thermal layer for just about any adventure and our all-time best seller. It’s the perfect thermal layer for core warmth when you’re layering up, yet versatile enough to be worn on its own in milder conditions.

Tag-free, flatlock stitching and raglan sleeves help eliminate chafe and maximise comfort. The drop back hem and extra body length is designed for tucking into your outer layers. Thumb loops keep your hands warm and stop your sleeves riding up when layering.

This top is the perfect combination of performance, warmth and comfort.

(For a more relaxed fit try our Ultra or Universal tops.)

Ultra Trail Australia mandatory gear approved thermals.

Perfect for off-road cycling in changing conditions

Used as base layer for 90km gravel race in pouring rain and lower temperatures at higher elevations. With both slow sweaty climbs and fast cold descents this base layer effectively regulated my temperature.

I like to use Merino base layers as t-shirts as wool is awesome, nature’s hi-tech material, and the form fitting material show off my physique. ioMerino has good quality wool, but I’m not a fan of the fit of this shirt. The thumb holes, and thus longer sleeves, bunch up on my arms, which I could get past, but when I move around the shirt bunches up above my pecs and stays that way, unless I constantly pull it down. For reference, My body is similar to the model’s for this grey color. I have a preferred brand but they run out of stock often and I was looking for different colors. Unfortunately, this shirt will get relegated to sleepwear only. So, 3 stars for quality and construction, but not 4 or 5 stars for my purposes.

Great all rounder

Nice, light and snug fitting, perfect as a base layer or to throw on over the top to keep you warm. Looks great, fits great, 100% happy with my purchase and already looking to add more merino to my running kit

Another great piece of kit

It has been a while since i brought any IO and putting this on reminded me it has been too long. Putting this on is like a nice warm hug - i know that sounds ridiculous. The thumb loops work really well with the Newton Gloves. I wish i had gotten them at the start of the Canberra winter as opposed to the end.

Merino Base Layer.

I use Altitude as a light weight base layer for cycling. It keeps me warm, but not hot even if i get it all sweaty. Initially I thought the the “glove” extension of the sleeve was a bit odd, but now in the cold weather I find it useful in keeping my hands warm. They fit easily under my cycling gloves, leaving no gaps.

Get warm this winter

Two new tops are providing me with continuous comfort and warmth while l work from home. No itchiness whatsoever. Multi wear between washing. The tops are a very solid base from which to start your clothing layering.

First purchase

I purchased an Ultra Zip, an Altitude long sleeve crew and a skull cap. I am generally between Medium & Large. In these styles for me at least - Medium is plenty big enough. The Ultra Zip fancy enough to wear to the pub or out to tea, the Altitude tee does the job exactly as described. The skull cap is brilliant. Small, warm, thin - definitely an essential piece if kit for Autumn/Winter in Adelaide.

Short version is - more than happy - hoping for a good long life and will look to buy more. The Ultra fabric smoother - the Altitude "feels" tougher. Might go for Altitude when looking for warmth and robustness - Ultra when looking for style & comfort.

A solid 4 1/2 out of 5 stars and I am told I am not easy to please!!!!!

Cheers

I am an IOMerino convert

This is my third Merino top (I also have the leggings and neck warmer) and I LOVE THEM ALL. The feel and fit is great and spending 5 weeks in Norway and Sweden I wore IOMerino daily - its comfortable, kept me warm as I used it as layering. We did park runs and in the freezing cold and most times all I needed was the crew top (ditching a jacket before I ran and warming up in a few Ks). I now have no need to look elsewhere for my merino gear - this is THE BEST merino stuff I have worn - and I have been through alot of brands!

Comfy, stylish and warm

This is my second altitude crew top. It looks and feels great. The colours are gorgeous too (boysenberry marle and port marle). I find this top perfect for casual wear, walking, computer cycling, hiking and camping. It looks good on it’s own and fits well under another layer. Great customer service too. The team were very quick and responsive resolving a wee issue.

Thanks for your review Helen. We try to match our Customer service to the same level and our product! Keep warm!

Perfect thermal

The fit and material quality is great. This will be my go to first layer as it gets colder. I might have to get another!

Thanks Jonathan, your layering if off to the perfect start!

Very happy

Bought this for my husband: he wore in doing the 22 UTA course at dawn - he was very happy. Said it drew away the sweat but kept him warm. He wasn’t too hot. He plans to buy another and perhaps some summer stuff as well.

Great for cycling in the cold

I wear my Altitude Crew as a base layer biking in cold New England winter weather. Keeps me warm, wicks sweat away and when I'm riding I just forget about it, which is the best thing I can say about a base layer. I'm comfortable, warm and not sweaty. The quality of the workmanship is excellent, and the thingies that fit around my thumb keep the sleeves pulled down over my wrists and inside my gloves so my wrists stay warm. Also, the sleeves are quite long, which is ideal for cyclists.

Romain Dufour (Granada, ES)
It delivers

It's just as good as promised. It's warm when used as a baselayer, even in subzero temperatures, and I use it as a normal Tee when the weather is nice and it keeps me cool. It's as light as it gets, I recommend. Will probably order others some time.

BEST VALUE & QUALITY MERINO YOU CAN FIND.

Hi,, I have owned Merino years ago, then went for expensive synthetic, big mistake, now with a lot of brands of expensive Merino available its a difficult choice to get quality, comfort & value? I choose
IO-Merino after extensive research and I could not be happier & more satisfied with their products REALLY GREAT QUALITY clothing at a respectable price. Thank you so much IO-MERINO.

EXCEPTIONAL QUALITY/COMFORTABLE AND AFFORDABLE

My family and I have recently returned from a months’ skiing in the USA. Whilst in Montana for 5 days early in the New Year, the temperatures were an unbelievable low of minus 38c with daily maximum of around minus 15c. I just wanted to express to you my appreciation of the quality of your ioMerino thermals. We were blown away with their superiority over other thermals we had (Kath and Ice), in particular the Chaser model, but the Altitude models also easily out-performed the Kath and Ice brands. Very impressive gear!
