Our Altitude range is designed to fit close to your body for maximum performance, so it’s tight but still soft, with plenty of give for extra comfort. The Men's Altitude Crew Neck Base Layer is the ‘go to’ thermal layer for just about any adventure and our all-time best seller. It’s the perfect thermal layer for core warmth when you’re layering up, yet versatile enough to be worn on its own in milder conditions.

Tag-free, flatlock stitching and raglan sleeves help eliminate chafe and maximise comfort. The drop back hem and extra body length is designed for tucking into your outer layers. Thumb loops keep your hands warm and stop your sleeves riding up when layering.

This top is the perfect combination of performance, warmth and comfort.

All set for winter!

I like to use Merino base layers as t-shirts as wool is awesome, nature’s hi-tech material, and the form fitting material show off my physique. ioMerino has good quality wool, but I’m not a fan of the fit of this shirt. The thumb holes, and thus longer sleeves, bunch up on my arms, which I could get past, but when I move around the shirt bunches up above my pecs and stays that way, unless I constantly pull it down. For reference, My body is similar to the model’s for this grey color. I have a preferred brand but they run out of stock often and I was looking for different colors. Unfortunately, this shirt will get relegated to sleepwear only. So, 3 stars for quality and construction, but not 4 or 5 stars for my purposes.

Great all rounder

Nice, light and snug fitting, perfect as a base layer or to throw on over the top to keep you warm. Looks great, fits great, 100% happy with my purchase and already looking to add more merino to my running kit

Another great piece of kit

It has been a while since i brought any IO and putting this on reminded me it has been too long. Putting this on is like a nice warm hug - i know that sounds ridiculous. The thumb loops work really well with the Newton Gloves. I wish i had gotten them at the start of the Canberra winter as opposed to the end.

Merino Base Layer.

I use Altitude as a light weight base layer for cycling. It keeps me warm, but not hot even if i get it all sweaty. Initially I thought the the “glove” extension of the sleeve was a bit odd, but now in the cold weather I find it useful in keeping my hands warm. They fit easily under my cycling gloves, leaving no gaps.

Bought the Ultra Zip in Grey and I absolutely love it. This is my first IOMerino product and I’m really impressed by the quality. Feels soft, it’s super warm and fits really well. On the fit, I’m 5,11 (180cm) 75kg athletic build and while the medium fit was perfect across the shoulders, it would ride up if I put my hands up and was just a bit too tight to be comfortable for running and layering when climbing/mountaineering. I sized up to a large and it’s perfect.

Highly recommend this.

Local quality

I love my new pants and I live that I could buy them locally I needed to exchange them for a larger size, my underestimating my size, snd just popped down to Adelaide to do so, though I have to say they were very prompt in sending them.

Awesome top!

I just recently bought this top to replace a similar style synthetic one. The difference is night and day! I was getting hot, sweaty and itchy under the synthetics on long hikes. The merino fabric feels so much nicer on my skin and breathes so well, the comfort levels have improved 10 fold! Also love the zip for chest cooling and the thumb loops to protect the backs of my hands from the sun. Well done IO 👏🏼

Worth the expense

Best and most comfortable merino clothing for the UK and Canada winter. A must buy is the base layers. Tops and leggings. Very happy with my purchase.
Easy to care.
Can't wait to use my gear for next trip to Finland 2025.
