Our Altitude range was originally designed as a baselayer, to fit close to your body for maximum performance, so it’s snug but soft, with plenty of give for extra comfort. If you’re usually a medium, for example, you might find the medium fits tighter than you’d expect because it’s designed to be ‘contact fit’ and look and feel like a second skin. If you’re looking for a more relaxed fit you might consider sizing up (it will still be relatively snug) or choosing another style.

The Men’s Altitude Hooded Zip Base Layer thermal is the hooded version of our best-selling Altitude Base Layer Crew and Zip. Super soft, ultra comfortable, lightweight and breathable.

Tag-free, flatlock stitching and raglan sleeves help eliminate chafe and maximise comfort. The drop back hem and extra body length is designed for tucking into your outer layers. Thumb loops keep your hands warm and stop your sleeves riding up when layering. The lightweight hood adds extra warmth around your head and neck and fits under a helmet with ease.

FIT & FABRIC

Originally designed to be worn as a base layer, (is usually underneath something else), this is a ‘contact fit’ layer so will hug your body. If you don’t want it to fit, feel or look like a second skin, you might try another style, or go up a size, but please note: even going up a size will fit quite close to your body because of the fabric and cut.

Altitude Hooded Zip

I Love my Altitude Hooded Zip! Like some reviewers said, the sizing runs a bit smaller than other brands (more like the sizing USED to be 30 years ago or so....), maybe Aussies aren't growing larger like the rest of us are lol. I'm 6foot tall and 175 pounds and ordered a large, which fits snug and close to my body, which is perfect.
Like all of my IoMerino products I've bought through the years, this is built to last and I look forward to years of use.
Shoot, I'm still wearing a hoodie and a couple of scarves I bought a dozen years ago when it was called IoBio....

Saved me after surgery

Just had open heart surgery and my body temperature remains far below my lifelong norm. Wearing this has helped a lot. I have last year's style with a full zipper and no hood. The left sided zipper is odd for me and only one pocket is another slight downside. Rather light weight piece but for this situation it has warmed me to the core. Having to wear gloves indoors will be a thing of the past when Tucson's summer arrives all too soon.

I love the hood which covers most of my face comfortably and is a big boon or my bald head! It is so soft!
This piece is going traveling with me as the outerwear on planes. Also love the long sleeves and thumb hole for keeping hands warm.

The best thing I own

It's warm but not too warm, never gets stinky even though I wash it maybe once a month. Fits great... nice and thin. Plus it has a hood when things get cold & windy at Mammoth Mountain and it fits under the helmet nicely. Can't say enough good things about the altitude hooded zip.

A few years back, I bought a similar hooded merino top from another company and wore it constantly while walking the Camino. Sadly, it developed holes and was no longer available. Imagine my delight to find the Altitude Hooded Zip at ioMerino. Light, warm, comfortable, exceptional quality and an Aussie company to boot. I’m not a ‘pink’ girl, so bought the ‘black’ mens instead. Fits well and keeps me warm

I got this for winter runs. It hasn't been super cold where I live this year, but I did get to run in ~31 degrees the other day (in the evening). I usually wear a wool hat that my wife knitted but I experimented with sticking to the hood, which is perfect for keeping my ears warm for the first few miles. I felt about the same for the entire run after warming up, which is a huge improvement over the synthetic hoodie I was wearing at these temps, which feels less warm near the end of the run.

It did seem to need a wash beforehand. I wore it without washing and it had a bit of an odor that didn't reappear after a trip through the washing machine.
