EMU RUNS TRAIL RACE

August 11, 2015

EMU RUNS TRAIL RACE

Mt Misery isn’t the most optimistically named place for a trail running event, but when it comes to picturesque Australian trails, it’s right on the money.

As a race sponsor, we were proud to be involved, and despite the cool conditions on the day, runners would have been anything but miserable if they’d been running in one of our lightweight ioMerino layers. (And we spotted at least a few out there staying warm in their ioMerino!)

One ‘runner’ who ran without any layers at all was an unusually friendly emu who joined in for an extended trot. Sadly, there were calls for him to be disqualified for not having an official race number.

The course itself, nestled in the Adelaide Hills, a short distance from ioMerino HQ in South Australia, makes its way through some classic Australian scrubland, includes bagging the peak of Mt Misery along the way, and takes in more than 1,200m of elevation along the 24km course.

By all accounts, a good time was had by all on race day which, despite being cool, was an otherwise perfect Winter’s day.

The Men’s 24km race was taken out by Matt McCabe in a cracking time of just 2:08 while Kazu Kuwata took out first place in the women’s 24km race in 2:29.

We spoke to ioMerino Outsider, Sarah, about her experience running the infamous Ultra Trail Australia 50km and if her ioMerino held up against the long and cold conditions.

Fabric Guide

While Merino is an amazing natural fibre, not all Merino fabrics are created equal. At ioMerino, we make our own fabrics, using only the best quality fibres, and to very specific specifications that make the most of the natural benefits of Merino. All of them are 'Merino rich’. No cheap blends passed off as Merino. No cheaper scratchy fibres or synthetic substitutes to save money. No unethical production. And each fabric is made for a specific purpose. So if you see something with a small amount of elastase or nylon added, you can be sure it absolutely needs to be there to enhance the natural stretch and durability.

It took every bit of our 140 years of experience in the wool industry to perfect our fabrics, but we think you’ll agree the end result was more than worth the effort.

Ethically Made. Ethically Sourced. Perfectly Natural.
